Each of Noctua's large square silk scarf designs is hand drawn by Seattle-based indie artist Danalynn Coulon. An avid traveler, Danalynn's excursions range from rural France to sub-Saharan Africa; her artwork often draws from these different experiences and cultures.
When creating a new scarf, Danalynn starts with a period of intense research. Each scarf aims to be as accurate as possible while combining multiple points of view, such as meshing mythology with science. After the key themes of the scarf have been defined, Danalynn will hand draw the scarf design. Then the back and forth exchange occurs with our partners in Italy to ensure the artists' concepts are understood and reproduced with the highest quality.
